I got e-mail from Tootai about how he once stumbled upon a famicom cartridge in Europe called “Mac Donald Mario”. Being an NES cartridge collector he picked it up and found out…
It turned out to be a hacked version M.C. Kids with Mario stuck in as the main character.
It’s pretty crazy the lengths people will go to to make a buck.
That reminds me when I think it was Spyro 2 was released within 2 weeks some Russian pirates had made a boot leg copy where they replaced all the voices with Russian.
Even though I’m sad that some pirates ripped off my game it’s still interesting to see their hack.
I was already a fan of M.C. Kids, but just looking at those screenshots made it twice as appealing.
I’ve noticed a phenomenon where if someone I like is involved with a product, then I’m inclined to like the product more. I’m more forgiving with its flaws and am more likely to pay attention to its successes.
Mario’s like that. He’s like a good friend that I’ve known all my life, and his mere presence makes a product more enjoyable.
I think this is one of Nintendo’s huge wins. No other company, perhaps aside from Square, has developed such a cast of well-loved characters. Who else could get away with games like Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros?

is there anyway to have this game? i thought it actually never existed… because i lost all knowledge about it.. so, is there a rom? or can i do my own version? this has to be the game with more sentimental value that i every played for NES.
i am from india. i have the cattrige of this game but it is not working now. i had loads of fun playing it. love it. loved the moon levels “Dont be a lunartic Har Har Har” i need this game. does anybody know where i could get a copy of it.

yo lo tuve, y es un gran juego el mejor en mi opinion.
lo termine como 7 veces y me encanta. una lastima que mi primo me perdio ese cartucho es invaluable.
mejor que el killer instinct el teken etc. lo digo en serio
ese juego esta muy pero muy bien pensado, y bien raro mas raro que sonic y los juegos de mario originales.
Podria decir que esta al nivel de Power Blade y star wars del NES

I had this game when I was a mere child, I always made it to the Hamburglar levels but I never did complete the game. I lost it when I moved to another country and I had no idea it was hacked . thanks for the help

I’ve seen this hack before through a rom and emulator, and honestly, I wasn’t too impressed. I liked McKids just fine the way it was. Although, I too have delved into an attempt at giving the game a Mario-style twist.
The game always made me think of a mix of Super Mario 2 and 3, and Disney’s Chip ‘n Dale with a bit of added stuff. But it doesn’t matter how original a game is, as long as it’s fun to play. Anyways, my stumbling across this page was merely by chance, but I figured why not take the chance and ask you. After all, who better to ask about editing McKids than one of the minds behind it!
I have the ability to change all the game’s graphics to whatever I please, but I’m at a total loss as to how to change music and color palettes. I’ve also failed to dig up a tool to edit the game’s levels with as well, which shouldn’t surprise me since this game was so underrated.
Anyways, let me skip to the question. Would you happen to have any of the tools you used to make this game still? I assure you, this is in no way being done for profit, especially considering nobody would buy an NES rom they could simply get from somewhere else that would host it for free download. In a way, this is a fan project both towards Super Mario and McKids, merging the two. Who knows, maybe this will draw in attention to McKids that it didn’t get when it should have.
Gregg, you may be inclined to take this as a personal offense, but this pirate copy was my introduction to your game! At the time I was around 9 years old, and the clerk of my local Dutch videogame shop was speaking in hushed tones of a ‘Mario 4′ and ‘5′ they were selling off counter. Mario IV happened to be a Mario sprite hack for Armadillo, and Mario V happened to be McKids with a Mario sprite hack. I bought them both – I finished the Armadillo game but I always felt it was a bit strange and it didn’t really feel like Mario at all. Your game on the other hand felt very much like Mario 3 but taken to the next level.
Anyway, I always thought for a non-official game (well, what the hell did I know at that age), this was very good! So you could take that as a compiment or as an insult to injury!

When I passed the third scenary in hideoutland, an alternative world oppens near first world…where can I find the pluzzle pieces for entering this alternative world? I thought maybe fighting against the ronald’s bag I could enter but the only think that I got was finish all the game and I couldn´t enter to this alternative world.
