That was cool to see you. Too bad G4 doesn't carry that show. Will I prefer fps games, I agree that everything here in the States is pretty much the same thing and doesn't experiment because, well EA probably won't let 'em.

I stumbled across your how to make a video game entry/tutorial a few days ago and my friends and I are about 2 weeks into creating our first game.  We have all the programs we need or atleast we think we do.  What are some things we may need? Thus far we have Maya 6.0 unlimted,acid and some programming tool (im not aware of the name seeing how I dont program.)  I know we need a engine?  What can we get on a low budget? Is there any other resources that we can get our hands on to help us?  You mention in your entry about companies funding projects after a 4 to 5 level demo is complete... A man commented on the bottom that companies dont do this anymore.  Can you confirm weather they do or not.  Also what renders the models out in the actual gameplay maya or the game engine?  If you can help me with a few of these questions that would be great.  Thank you.

It's always weird hearing what a person sounds like when you've neverheard them, your voice didn't fit my "mental greg" :)  I  must go to japan one day!  Getting back to topic...  I think in general that games falling into the trap of being the same nowdays.  I don't think that they need to always be revolutionary/original because being those doesn't necisarrilly mean the game is any fun.  One of the main problems right now is the sequel maddness that we're in, just make something new for once!

with regards to finding an engine for your game .. it all depends on what you expect from the engine and of course your budget.  there are some good open scource 3d engines out there .. just google it. available for nowt. but require some programming skills to be used. at the other end of the scale there are available some game prototyping tools such as virtools which require essentially no programming skills but some more serious cash   about £10,000 for dev with physics and ai..

a better option if possible would be to create a mod for a current game..dare i say it the hl2 source engine is very flexible. swat up on some modding forums and explain your proposition to other budding developers. no man is an island after all. if the concept is good and the initial design & specifications are done, im sure you will have no problem finding help..
